Window Shelf
This project was brought on by our need for more countertop space in the kitchen. This was before I knew CAD, so I mocked the shelf up in Maya.
My goal was to make the shelf easily disassembleable, so I used threaded inserts and brass machine screws to hold all the pieces together. Maybe overkill in hindsight, but it's a making philosophy I've carried with me since: if you can make something that comes apart and goes back together easily, it's worth the extra effort. This leads me to avoid glue, nails, and screws whenever it's practical.
Also, this project was my first time using a Japanese pull saw, and I've never looked back.
